Established by IUCN - The World Conservation Union, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), WCMC is an independent organisation and has become the planet's principal source of global biodiversity information.

In recognition of our expertise, UNEP has expressed a wish to turn WCMC into its Centre for World Biodiversity Information and Assessment by June 2000.

As an international conservation charity, WCMC provides objective, scientifically rigorous and focused information on global biodiversity.
