WCMC recognises the fundamental need to make our databases operationally useful for all our users, including the private sector.

Example services to the private sector include:

• A pharmaceutical company improving their environmental reporting by checking lists of plants used in their preparations against our database of over 100,000 threatened plants.
• Extraction industries using our maps of sensitive sites and species for improved awareness of the environmental impact of their industry, and planning of access routes to sites.
• Environmental consultancies and extraction industries using maps and information on sensitive marine habitats for contingency planning and emergency response (e.g. in the case of an oil spill - to prioritise areas for clean up and containment).
