Provide Background Information
(Proceed from the General -> Specific)

Example

Webbium grandium (L.) belongs to the Webbaceae. This family is large and cosmopolitan. Species can be found in the Caribbean, Eastern and Western Canada, Georgia and Hawaii. Species in this family range from minute floating plants to large trees. The largest of these is W. grandium. It is endemic to the Subway Islands and is found in wet locations on leeward slopes from 100 to 300 meters.

Other relevant background information should also be given. If you choose a plant that has Ethnobotanical significance  present this information next.

Example

Its trunk was made into canoes by ancient Subians. Its extremely large leaves were used as thatch, and as fans. Wax was scraped from the leaves and was used to protect and enhance the beauty of wooden artifacts like bowls. Its flowers produced a great amount of nectar. This was consumed directly. and was also fermented. The latter drink was reserved for the ruling class. The flowers were made into necklaces that resemble leis. The fruit was also edible.

The last part of the Introduction should state the
SPECIFIC DETAILS of your study.

Example

The purpose of this study is to document the anatomy of the leaves, petioles, stem and root of W. grandium. This data may reveal why this plant was useful to indigenous peoples and may also reveal xeromorphic or hydromorphic traits.
