Porphyra Life Cycle with Aplanospores |
|

The
Conchocelis Stage was once regarded as a separate species in the Genus Conchocelis!
This phase of the life cycle occurs in Oyster shells. The prefix in Conchocelis
refers to shell.

Sporic Life Cycles have two Generations (Haploid & Diploid).
The Diploid Generation produces Meiospores and is thus called the Sporophyte.
The Haploid Generation produces Gametes and is called the Gametophyte.
In the case of
the Conchocelis Life Cycle.
The Diploid Generation starts with Fertilization
and ends with
Meiosis which occurs a Monosporangium
during the Conchocelis stage.
