Biographical Sketch:
Adele J. Wolfson is Professor of Chemistry and Faculty Director of the
Science Center at Wellesley College. She also directs the Biological
Chemistry program, an interdepartmental major. Dr. Wolfson received her
undergraduate training at Brandeis University, studied at Hebrew
University in Jerusalem, and received her PhD from Columbia University.
She did post-doctoral research at the University of Paris, held faculty
positions at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and Harvard
Medical School, and has been at Wellesley since 1985. Her research for the
past several years has focused on proteases and peptidases. Undergraduates
are involved in every aspect of her research, and she has a long-standing
commitment to programs which encourage women and minorities to study
science and pursue scientific careers. She has been involved with
educational and outreach activities through professional societies, having
chaired the Educational Affairs Committee, the Committee on Equal
Opportunities for Women, and the Task Force on Educational Resources of
ASBMB, and currently serves on the GRE committee for the Biochemistry,
Cell and Molecular Biology Exam. She was one of the workshop leaders at
the first two PKAL workshops on Biochemistry: Biology or Chemistry?
