Wood anatomists refer to Vessel Members as Pores when they are studying Cross-sections. If the Pores are of uniform size and are uniformly distributed in the growth increment, the wood is called Diffuse Porous. If the Pores are of different sizes and if the Large Pores are segregated to one side of the Growth Increment then the wood is Ring Porous.

These terms are NOT applied to Gymnosperm Wood.
