I imagine that the Rays are like a Fence. If Fences-500.jpg (102062 bytes)you stand at one end of the fence you can see the fence post very well and you can easily judge its height. However you would not be able to see the slats that make up the fence.

If you move to the middle of the fence and stand back you can see the side of the fence. This will reveal the nature of the slats and their pattern.

When the Fence is viewed from the side it would represent a Radial Section. The Ray is analagous to the Fence
