"The Secret of the Seed is in the fragrance of the flower as the petals bow their heads before the power, and the sky rolling by a million miles every hour on the universal clock whose basic rhythm is forever". (M. Pinder)

I hope that you have gained a better knowledge of Plant Anatomy as a result of taking this course. My goals (I actually had some goals!) were to cover the essentials and give you the skills and tools to explore on your own.

I hope that you can see that there is also an esthetic aspect to plant anatomy. The appeal of flowers is obvious, however, the beauties that lie inside are even more subtle and spectacular. They even have functional significance! You are one of the chosen few on this planet who are alerted to this. This thought may warm your toes on cold nights as you wait in the unemployment line with me!!!!! A colleague once told me that Plant Anatomy was a worthless course!!!!! If nothing else you should have gotten some good ideas for T-shirts, Night Club Names and Names for Rock Bands! I plan to copyright these for the U of H so that we can turn a profit or is it prophet???

It seems that we live to live in a society and a world which has lost itsIeIeRootPol.jpg (122883 bytes) internal compass. We wallow in a flood of things shiny bright and delightful, yet we are unfulfilled. It is my hope that universities like this may preserve and propagate the best ideas and knowledge of the past, present and future. In my lifetime universities in this country have undergone a profound metamorphosis from vortices of protest and social challenge to anchors of certainty and quality.

Unfortunately, our great state colleges and universities have withered under neglect and even from attacks by our "leaders" whoSecPhloemHauPol.jpg (140052 bytes) have convinced society that lots of bad, wasteful things go on at institutions of higher learning, like this. If you really think about it, colleges and universities are dedicated to the pursuit and dissemination of goodness. Few other human organizations can say the same with a straight face. That is what I think anyway. Must we see our system of higher education crumble before we realize what we have lost?

"Was it true, was it real, or just a dream???"

Someone told me that my best days would beS-2OViewPol.jpg (97012 bytes) those I spent as an undergraduate and graduate student. I laughed, as you may. However, they were right!! You have a rare opportunity to explore this marvelous creation called the university. This opportunity may never come again in your lifetime. Take some time to explore and imbibe the beauty that lies within this testament to the human spirit, the University!!!!!!
