Simplified Description of Sporangium Formation

The Epidermis is the typical source for Sporangial Initiation.

This usually involves Many Cells which divide simultaneously & form a Eusporangium.

The initial plane of cell division is Parallel to the Surface
(Periclinal).

This produces two layers or tiers of cells parallel to the surface.

The cells of the upper tier divide Anticlinally (Perpendicular to the Surface) to produce the Sporangium Wall.

The cells of the lower tier divide in various planes & produce
Sporogenous Cells.

The Sporogenous Cells undergo Meiosis to produce
Haploid Spores.

I call these Meiospores to remind me that they are the product of Meiosis and are Haploid.
