Second International Colloquium On Tropical Hydrology in Panama City, recommended support of the TMCF Initiative and establishment of a network of TMCF sites for hydrology and climatology monitoring.

Publication in Nature and widespread publicity of two papers showing extinction of amphibians and other population changes at Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve, Costa Rica are linked to changing cloud patterns due to climatic warming and simulation of these effects of climate change.

Recognition that mountain cloud forests are of particular concern amongst forests in environmentally critical areas by the Third Session of the Intergovernmental Forum on Forests.
