Vegetative branches of cotton repeat much the same developmental sequence as the main stem. They can arise from any axillary bud, including those on reproductive branches, but they develop most commonly from buds at main stem nodes 4 and 5. Vegetative branches usually bear fruiting branches just like the main stem.
