Transverse section of ti (Cordyline sp.) stem. Note the presence of Vascular Bundles in the interior of the stem. The Blue Color indicates the presence of Lignin.

Each bundle contains a ring of Xylem which surrounds a core of Phloem.  The Cortex is composed of Parenchyma.

An STM is located between the cortex and the vascular bundles.

Enlarged view of the STM  region in ti. Note the pink color of the phloem inside each Vascular Bundle. The bundles are surrounded by Parenchyma which also stains pink. If you look carefully you can see cell files in the STM. Note the presence of partly differentiated bundles adjacent to the STM.

Each Vascular Bundle is composed of an outer ring of Xylem and a Core of Phloem (Amphivasal). The Xylem stains blue and the Phloem is Pink.
