The photos below were the first flash photos taken by a student! A-C were taken with a large Flash Unit that does not fit well in a small shirt pocket. Photo A had the flash placed at the front of the lens while Photo B was taken with the flash further away from the subject. A & B are NOT modified. C is a slightly modified image of B. A & B are over exposed but B is clearly darker than A.   C was generated by a slight adjustment of its Tone/Balance

Photos D-F are the same as A-C except they were taken with a small flash that easily fits into a shirt pocket. The results are very similar in both cases. Consequently, the small flash is ample and more desirable for close-up photos because it is easier to use. The large flash is useful for taking general photos (feet-yards) in dark environs.
