        Conference on Synergies and Coordination between Multilateral Environmental Agreements, 14-16 July, Tokyo (posted 22 July 1999)

        This conferences at the United Nations University, Japan, examines the inter-relationship between multilateral environmental agreements - the synergy of these is key to the successful implementation of sustainable development policies world-wide.

        Key note speakers at the conference included: Klaus Toepfer, Executive Director of UNEP; Mahammed El-Ashry, CEO of the Global Environment Facility; and Akiko Domoto, President of Global Legislators Organization for the Balanced Environment (GLOBE) and member of the Japanese House of Councillors.

        WCMC's representative at the conference, Mark Collins (WCMC Chief Executive) delivered an important speech on The Harmonization of Information Management Infrastructures - a subject which WCMC has been working for sometime on behalf of the major conservation related conventions.
