The World Conservation Monitoring Centre provides information services on conservation and sustainable use of the world's living resources, and helps others to develop information systems of their own.

         


        Forest Information Service

        WCMC's data holdings on forests, their diversity and conservation status worldwide come from a variety of national and international sources. The spatial data have formed the basis for a major statistical analysis of forest protection in the world, carried out in conjunction with CIFOR. To access this analysis and the regional maps (first produced for a WCMC/CIFOR CD-ROM), click here.

        WCMC is working with IUFRO and other forest information organisations (e.g. FAO, WFI, EFI, CIFOR) towards the development of a more comprehensive Global Forest Information Service (GFIS) which will be available over the Web. To find out more about this service click here.
