Vascular Plant Family Nomenclature: Names in Current Use

The following listing of vascular plant family names accounts for all names of extant vascular plants now currently in use in the systematic literature (e.g., 1970 to the present). This augments the list published previously (Hoogland, R.D. & J.L. Reveal. 1993. "Vascular plant family names in Family names in current use for vascular plants, bryophytes, and fungi. Koeltz Scientific Books, Konigstein, Germany). The list presented here includes numerous corrections to the 1993 listing.

The information presented here does not reflect the bizarre treatment of conserved family listed in App. II in the new funeral-black edition of the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature (Greuter, et al., Regnum Veg. 138). I have asked the Committee of Spermatophyta to review the curious decisions reached by the Editorial Committee for the Code believing that their treatment of numerous names will be found not to be supported by provisions in the Code.
