Oenocarpus mapora
Synonymy: Oenocarpus panamanus; two subspecies are named: O. mapora ssp. mapora and O. mapora ssp. dryanderae | Distribution: Central and South America |
Common names: Don Pedrito's palm | Conservation status: Unknown |
Adult plant in habitat
Quite unlike Oenocarpus bataua, it is difficult to believe that the two are related. This is a suckering
species, with several trunks on a mature clump. It is a pretty palm, again with new maroon leaves
on the young plant. Quite fast growing, and, it would seem, easy to care for.
