Graduate Studies at the Missouri Botanical Garden

Research on Plant Systematics, Evolution and Ecology

Graduate studies in Botany at the Missouri Botanical Garden date from 1885. Currently, students are enrolled in one of four area universities, Washington University, University of Missouri--St. Louis, St. Louis University, and Southern Illinois Unversity--Edwardsville.

Twenty-four graduate students from twelve countries and five continents (Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and South America) carry out dissertation research with an advisor at Missouri Botanical Garden. Twenty-one Missouri Botanical Garden scientists are adjunct professors at one or more of the area universities. The Garden scientists advise students, direct research, serve on dissertation committees and teach courses. Reciprocally, fourteen faculty members from the area universities serve as research associates at the Garden.

Our research has been funded by the Mellon Foundation, the National Science Foundation, the National Geographic Society, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the American Society of Plant Taxonomists.

For more information about student projects see their individual pages.

Dr. P. Mick Richardson serves as the manager of the Garden's Graduate Program.
