Ye Wanhui and Wen Dazhi, South China Institute of Botany, Academia Sinica, Guangzhou 510650, China.

Based on the analysis of patch mosaic structure of community, the productivity pattern of the Lower Subtropical Evergreen Broad-leaved Forest in Dinghushan Biosphere Reserve of China has been studied. The productivity increase by the development of patches. The productivity formation is dependent on the tree layer, especially on the upper and middle tree layer of mature patches. The lower tree layer is negative due to the dead of tree. This community has 93 tree species, but not more than 10 species, make great contribution to the productivity of community. Castanopsis chinensis, Schima superba work for upper and middle tree layer, Cryptocarya concinna for middle tree layer, Aporaosa yunnaensis for lower tree layer and understory.
