XVI International Botanical Congess
Clarisia biflora, Cedrela odorata, Celtis iguanea, Psychotria carthagenesis, Adenaria floribunda, Ficus trigona, Trema micrantha and Tessaria integrifolia are common species well represented in the jungle mountains, reaching altitudes of 2600 m osl. Mountain humid forests Symplocaceae 12 spp, Sabiaceae 4, Lauraceae 20, Styracaceae 5, Brunnelliaceae 2, Monimiaceae 10, Chloranthaceae 6, Theaceae 4, Melastomataceae 40 and Podocarpaceae 3. A 200x2 transect where individuals above 2.5 cm. dbh recorded holds a diversity of 92 species. The whole flora of the sanctuary is estimated around 3000 species for an area of 32000 has. With interandean valleys, puna, high andean Polylepis woodlands, jungles and cloud forests. Rare species in distribution are Zanthoxylum mantaro, a second record for Peru and Ficus crassiuscula. Probably the only endemics are Senna vargasii and Pentacalia nunezii. By comparisons of the regional floristics at equivalent altitudes in souther Perú we are understanding better the species. For instance the Cecropia tacuna described in central Perú is widespread in la ceja of Cusco. Conservation Biology here becames an utopic dreams. Threaths such as the land tenure status is in chaos, the rampant cattle ranching and frequent large scale fires and burnings of entire landscapes last August is becaming a tradition.
