Ukraine is one European state where the treatment by medicinal plants is popular. The Ukrainian flora numbers 5,2 thousand vascular plants, almost 1100 species contain biologically active components of potential medical value and many of them are used in international medical practice. But only 250 species are officially recognized as medicinal plants. The results of investigation of the state and dynamics of natural resources of medicinal plants show that the reserves are considerable for 354 species, the resources of 631 species are limited and the conservation measures are necessary for 90 species of medicinal plants. However, there is a measurable trend towards the decline of their populations and shrinking areas of their distribution, which is typical for most medicinal plants except some weedy species. The database of medicinal plants of Ukraine are created with the aim of the monitoring of the state and dynamics of resources of medicinal plants.
