Based on collecting and cultivation of plants, examination of herbarium specimens and literature, a generic revision of family Bromeliaceae was undertaken. Six genera with 50 species occur in the State of Mexico, including 3 new taxa: Tillandsia (33 species), Pitcairnia (8 species), Hechtia (5 species), Catopsis (2 species), Bromelia (1 species), Ananas (1 species). A total of 33 species are endemic to Mexico, 23 corresponding to Tillandsia, 6 to Pitcairnia and 4 to Hechtia. Keys to genera and species are given and a manual (now in preparation) is presented, including identification keys, descriptions, habitat, phenology, distribution ranges and photos.
