Latin should remain mandatory for describing new taxa. The optional use of English under the proposed BioCode is unacceptable. Whereas the English language is the expression of certain living cultures, a certain political and economic system, Latin belongs to no single nation and yet it belongs to all. Latin is a patrimony of humanity.
